8CN Interview: Eric "The Outlaw" Hunter (20-3, 10 KO's)

8CN’s David Hopper caught up with featherweight prospect Eric “The Outlaw” Hunter (20-3, 10 KOs). The 28-year-old Philadelphia native, who was an alternate on the 2004 US Olympic team, has won five of his last six bouts, including three straight. He will fight Antonio Escalante (29-7, 20 KOs) this Friday, May 22 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif. The Golden Boy Promotions card will be televised live on Fox Sports.

On fight vs. Antonio Escalante…

Eric Hunter: “I think the fans can expect a great fight and a knockout. You’ve got two good fighters in the fight.”

On what a win would do for his career…

EH: “I think any fight would be good for your career. I think any good performance would be good for your career. I think you should come out and try to do your best at all times and perform to your best abilities. I’m looking for bigger money fights and bigger names. I’m a fighter. I want to be busy. I love to fight. I think the more fights, the better I look. I want to be one of those guys where my name is right there with the other [top] guys.”

On Escalante…

EH: “He’s durable. He punches pretty good. But he’s been knocked out before. I’m not looking to run. “

On the featherweight division…

EH: “I think that 126, 140, 147 are the best divisions right now.

On what he thinks will increase interest in lighter divisions…

EH: “I think the fans want knockouts. We need more knockouts.”

On a title shot…

EH: That’s up to Golden Boy and my team and what they think is best.”

On his fighting style…

EH: “My style is unpredictable. You never know what I’m gonna bring. I might sit there and box. I might go in and look for a knockout, I don’t know.”
