The Magic Man is Back!

It was a magical night for the "Magic Man" Antonio Tarver at the BB&T Center in Sunrise,FL. Coming into the night, Tarver had been inactive for nearly 17 months and came in the ring at a career high 221 lbs. At the age of 45, many wondered what the former Light Heavyweight kingpin had left in the tank but he showed that he still carries the ability to be a contender in the Heavyweight division.

Fighting for the first time in his home state of Florida in nearly 5 years, Tarver felt out the veteran Mike Sheppard for the first three rounds before landing a picture perfect uppercut that sent Sheppard to the canvas in round 4. Surprisingly Sheppard rose to his feet but was dropped two more times in the round before the referee halted the action at the 1:54 mark of round 4. Tarver (30-6), sporting sponsorship from social media start up Bedloo, claimed the NABA Heavyweight title with the win and is looking for a world title shot sometime in 2014.

In the co main event of the evening, rising prospect Randy Caballero stopped local favorite Jessy Cruz just before the bell to end round 7. After a slow beginning, Caballero (20-0) broke down Cruz with a vicious body shot that sent him to the canvas near the end of round 6. Cruz never recovered and went down again in round 7 before the referee stopped the bout at the 2:59 mark of the round.

Opening up the Fox Sports 1 telecast rising prospect Thomas Williams Jr (15-0) added the biggest name to his resume in former world title challenger Yusaf Mack (31-7-2). In a classic crossroads fight, Williams, who went 10 rounds for the first time in his career, came on strong to sweep the second half of the fight, including hurting and staggering Mack several times throughout the contest. However, the Philly fight Mack would not go away and kept pressing despite being in danger but could not muster up enough to win many rounds. Scorecards read 99-91, 98-92,97-92 all for the promising prospect.

On the off TV portion of the card, WBA #1 rated heavyweight Luis Ortiz(20-0) made quick work of Alex Gonzales(20-9) in his Golden Boy Promotions debut scoring a 1st round KO at the 2:00 mark.

2012 U.S. Olympian Dominic Breazeale found a live dog in late replacement Keith Barr from West Virginia. Barr took it to the bigger heavyweight in the first round by fighting on the inside and landed some telling shots. However in the 2nd round the Olympian Breazeale found his comfort zone and kept the short Barr at bay in the corner breaking him down before the referee jumped in and halted the fight. Breazeale, who was originally supposed to fight Nagy Aguilera, moves his record to a perfect 8-0 with all wins coming by KO.

Iron Mike Promotions started off the night a perfect 3-0 with their newest fighters.

Dennis Galarza made his pro debut a successful one when his opponent Harold Torres did not come out for round 2.

In the second bout, Albert Bell (3-0) kept his perfect record in tact despite being dropped in the opening round against Angel Hernandez (1-3). He kept his composure and out boxed Hernandez throughout the final 3 rounds to win 39-37 on all three judges scorecards.

Erikson Lubin also made his pro debut a successful one with a picture perfect left hand to score a blazing quick 0:35 second KO over Eric DeJesus (1-1).

Notably in attendance was former heavyweight champion Michael Moorer, two time world champion Joan Guzman, cruiserweight contender Francisco Palacios, former female featherweight champion Stacey Reile, IBF Light Middleweight contender Joey Hernandez and future hall of famer Winky Wright.
