Tommy Morrison’s son Kenzie Witt scores KO in boxing debut

Kenzie Witt, the son of former Heavyweight Boxing Champion Tommy “The Duke” Morrison, made a huge splash on July 12th at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Dewey, Oklahoma with an impressive 2nd round KO at a Team Rouse Fight Night Event.

The bout was his debut fight in the sport and like his father Witt battles at heavyweight. His opponent was Tony Camus, but the focus of the night was on how well Witt would respond in his first outing. Using a combination of athleticism, good footwork, and impressive form, he did not disappoint those in attendance.

Witt is the second son of Morrison’s to take up the sport this year, as his brother Trey Lippe has gone 3-0 with 3 KO’s after debuting back in February. Both son’s seemingly share a lot with their Father, including appearance, ring presence, and drive.

8CN/MMA DIRT’s Darren Barcomb talked with Witt following his victory to get his take on the fight. He stated, “It felt good but it happened so fast that I was actually in shock. My body completely took over.”

As far as rating his performance, Witt added “I’m not sure because there is still so much that I still need to learn and put together.” All modesty aside though, the consensus of those in attendance thought he looked pretty good in his debut, bringing back images of a young Tommy Morrison from 25 years ago.

As for when he will be back in the ring, Witt said “We’re working on my next fight right now but I’m not sure who it will be against or where it’ll be, but I plan to be better than I was this last time.”

That of course sounds like a determined fighter who is eager to train hard and work his way up the ladder of success. Coming into the sport as the son of a Boxing Champion brings with it high expectations and harsh criticism, but expect Kenzie Witt to take it all in stride as he continues to gain experience. One thing is for sure, there appears to be another knockout artist in the family…….
