Kovalev Dominates Hopkins

WBO Light heavy weight champion Sergey “Krusherâ€? Kovalev cemented his legend with a crushing unanimous win over Bernard “The Alienâ€? Hopkins. Kovalev put an end to the Alien invasion Saturday night at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, in front of a packed house.  If age is any indication of when a boxer should walk away from the sport, the deterioration of Hopkins’ once stellar ring defense should alert any prospects. While Kovalev’s right hand would prove to be Hopkins' Achilles heel throughout the fight, it made a commanding entrance in round 1 that dropped the almost 50-year-old Hopkins. Much ado was made about The Krusher’s never having fought beyond a eighth round; he kept the competitive edge, dominating the entire match. Although Hopkins did land a stiff right to stun  Kovalev in the last round, he succumb to his younger, quicker opponent. Scores were:  120-106, 120-107, 120-107
Making his biggest professional debut, Sadam “World Kidâ€? Ali (12-0-13 KOs), the WBO Inter-Continental Welterweight Champion TKOs the number two contender in the world, Carlos Abregu (36-2, 29 KOs). While the fight would get off to a dull first half prompting a barrage of boos from the crowd, the scheduled 10 round battle would end late in the 9th. The “World Kidâ€? sent Abregu to the mat twice during the bout, in the 6th and 9th rounds.  After Ali’s lead right followed by a small left knocked Abregu to both knees, the ref called an end to the match. The time was 1:54
