Fearless Forecasts for UFC 100
There can only be one undisputed UFC Heavyweight Champion.
Brock Lesnar can proudly lay claim to that distinction after just three bouts in the UFC and a total of four in his MMA career. In his last fight, Lesnar destroyed UFC legend Randy Couture by knocking him down with a punch and then pounding him out in the second round.
But there is an itch that Lesnar would like to scratch. That itch comes in the form of interim UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir, the only man so far who has dealt Lesnar his lone loss.
Remember that when the first time both men met, Lesnar was on the verge of stopping Mir. He had Mir down on the mat after connecting with a right hand and proceeded to pound the latter senseless. But then Mir was able to get a foot lock on Lesnar, submitting him in the first round.
Mir, for his part, also has an itch to scratch. And that itch comes in the form of the “interim” attached to his title. There can only be one UFC Heavyweight Champion, and it’s safe to say that Mir would like to solely lay claim to that distinction.
Lesnar would like to prove that his wins in the UFC were not flukes. He wants to prove that he didn’t beat an old guy that was past his prime in Couture. Mir is far from shot, and Lesnar will have a chance to redeem himself by beating the man who defeated him.
Mir is currently on a roll. He won his last three fights after getting knocked out by Brandon Vera in the first round two years ago. The last time he held the UFC heavyweight title by his lonesome was five years ago when he defeated Tim Sylvia via armbar in the first round, only to get stripped when he failed to defend his belt.
Brock Lesnar wants revenge. Frank Mir wants the title all for himself.
Fight fans want action.
Not to worry, these big guys won’t disappoint.
I like Mir via submission.
GSP versus Alves
Perhaps one of the hottest fighters today is conditioning freak and well-rounded Canadian Georges St-Pierre. He won his last five fights and all were against world-class opponents. Most notable among these wins is his revenge against Matt Hughes and Matt Serra and his total domination of BJ Penn.
Another hot fighter in the welterweight division is brazilian Thiago “Pitbull” Alves, who hasn’t lost a fight six years. He is currently on a seven-fight win streak.
But I feel that St-Pierre will be too much for Alves. He keeps his UFC welterweight title by knocking out Alves in four.
The battle of The Ultimate Fighter 9 coaches
There has been a lot of trash talking between the two Ultimate Fighter 9 coaches, Dan Henderson and Michael Bisping, but mostly from team UK’s Bisping. The two coaches will have a chance to get it on and prove who is the better fighter when they finally clash this Saturday. The winner will also get closer to a title shot for Anderson Silva’s middleweight belt.
Bisping is younger and fresher, but I think Dan Henderson will still have more than enough in the tank to pull it off. Henderson by unanimous decision.
