Prelim Results

The Garden absolutely exploded as nearby Brockton born East Bridgewater resident Joe Lauzon (19-5, 4 KO’s, 15 submissions) dominated his fellow The Ultimate Fighter season 5 cast mate Gabe Ruediger (17-6, 4 KO’s, 12 submissions ) on his way to an opening round submission victory via a picture perfect armbar.

Ruediger, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, was no match for the talented Lauzon. He was taken down at will and dominated on the ground until Lauzon slapped on the armbar.

Lightweight Nik Lentz (3-0-1) won a unanimous decision over Andre Winner (2-2, 1 KO) in a bout that opened up the Spike TV prelim broadcast.

Middleweight John Miller (12-4, 1 KO, 8 submissions) snapped a three fight losing streak with a 2nd round submission victory over John Salter (5-2, 3 KO’s, 3 submissions) via an anaconda choke. Official time of the tapout was 1:53 of the 2nd round.

New York’s Greg Soto (8-1, 2 KO’s, 3 submissions) earned a unanimous decision over England’s Nick Osipczak (5-2, 2 KO’s, 3 submissions) in a welterweight tilt. Osipczak was able to get off early and cut Soto over the left eye with a right hand in the opening round. In between rounds, a doctor took a look at the cut and decided to allow Soto to continue. Soto responded by dominating rounds 2 and 3 to win by scores of 29-28 on all three judges’ scorecards. 8countnews.com also scored the fight in favor of Soto 29-28.

Oregon welterweight Mike Pierce (4-1, 1 KO, 1 submission) dominated Amilcar Alves (11-2, 3 KO’s, 4 submissions) en route to a 3rd round submission victory. Pierce took Alves down twice in the opening round and spent most of the fight on top of his outwrestled opponent before forcing Alves to tapout due to a cross body armbar in the final round.
