El Gran Manny Pacquiao Makes Tontos out of Expertos

December 9th, 2008

“Many experts wondered why Manny Pacquiao took the fight. Looking at the first four rounds you have to wonder why Oscar De la Hoya took the fight.” – Jim Lampley

My Spanish is elementary at best, but let me try to translate that for you. I guess it goes something like “Muchos expertos se preguntaron por qué Manny Pacquiao tomó el combate. Mirando las primeras cuatro series que usted tiene que preguntarse por qué Oscar De la Hoya tomó el combate.” Okay you got me, I cheated. I translated that off the internet. I told you, I’m not an expert with the Spanish language.

I guess after Pacquiao’s beat down over De la Hoya last Saturday however, the word expert really means squat right now- squat as in nada/ wala/ nothing/ zilch; especially when you attach the word boxing before expert/s.

I see you Angelo Dundee with all that talk that De la Hoya is the better fighter and will beat Manny Pacquiao hands down. Here all great one, have a slice of some humble pie respectfully served on a china dish, on me in behalf of Manny.

I hear you self-proclaimed best trainer alive, rapping and rhyming- and I quote you- Mr. “too sweet to be sour” Floyd Mayweather. Hell, have a baker’s dozen. You need all the humble pie you can get for all that smack you laid down the past months about how De la Hoya will whoop and destroy Manny Pacquiao. Freddie Roach actually sent a special personalized card to go with them too. I think it reads, “Who’s the joke now?”

To all the boxing writers out there who claimed and thought they knew better and didn’t even give Manny a chance and said that the Pac Man express was going to get derailed by The Golden Boy and had the audacity to call this fight a mismatch and a circus scam because Pacquiao had no chance, why don’t you all help yourselves to some humble pies as well. Wash it down with some Tecates too on me. Yea, you can all have it. I only bought them for the PPV rebate anyway.

My boy Brad Cooney: Master Yoda! I’m sorry chief, but you can take a bite out of my pies as well. I won’t be feeding you any humble pie though because I know you never really lambasted the fight, but for picking Oscar over Manny in 8 rounds, allow me to give you a taste of my special Filipino recipe I baked called “Have some more Faith in Manny” pie.

So forgive me if I appear to gloat. I can’t help but say “I told you so.” You know, just like what’s in the head Coach Roach. I predicted Pacquiao to win hands down after he figures out De la Hoya’s size and gasses him out. I also predicted De la Hoya was going to go down twice in the fight, the first being in the 8th and the second in the 10th, and although it did not happen, it’s obvious that had Oscar not quit on his stool prior to round 9, he would’ve been floored multiple times. And those who called it like me “hi five!” Who’s the hugger now right?

Look at all these bandwagoners though all of a sudden singing Pacquiao’s praises. I’m not talking about my main man Reggie Miller of course who uttered the words “Let’s go Manny” to the camera before the fight started. Not even Mr. Usher Raymond either who was on his feet and enjoying every Pacquiao lick. I’m talking about these dudes who said “Oh, De la Hoya is so big, Manny is too small” all of a sudden getting amnesia saying I always thought Manny was going to win, “YOU LIE!”- talking about how you believed speed was going to win the fight but lost $100 betting for De la Hoya- “homie, YOU LIE!”

LOL

Where are all the experts now? De la Hoya is considering retirement. I hope these experts do too, so that way they wouldn’t be hugging the media credentials they should’ve given this dude. I’m just playing though. But it’s really so amusing how Manny Pacquiao’s performance all of a sudden flipped- pardon the pun- the world up-side down. SERIOUSLY- where are all the experts now?
