8countnews.com launches Water Charity

January 11th, 2009

Project Hydr8

8countnews.com and the World Boxing Community are doing their part to knock out poverty and make a difference in Africa.

On Jan. 11, 8CN began its fund-raising efforts to build fresh water wells in some of the world's most poverty-stricken nations. 8countnews.com is a new website and we have been fortunate enough to have gained a fairly large readership since our launch a couple of months ago.

The business of boxing and its fans are a very tight knit community with a tremendous amount of loyalty. We feel it’s only natural to use our influence to help people who are in dyer need.

Explains 8CN’s Brad Cooney, "Professional Boxers are already lining up to donate autographed gloves and other memorabilia that will eventually be sold on the website to support the cause. The first goal for Project Hydr8 is to build a well in Western Kenya in cooperation with thewaterproject.org.

This fresh water well will be placed at a medical clinic, school, or church where it can provide water to an entire community for less than $10 per person for 10 years or more of fresh water.  Your tax deductible contribution of only $10 or more will be used, 100 percent for actual project construction.

I have traveled to Los Angeles, California, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and Louisiana in 2008.  All through my travels I probably couldn't count the amount of bottled water that I have purchased.  I think we all have a tendency to take for granted having clean water to drink.
In Africa, a child walks miles to a dirty water source to get water for his or her family.  That child then walks miles back home to share that dirty water with his or her family.  Many times the family then gets sick, and in many cases they die from it.
I decided that I would no longer sit back and read about this happening.  I decided that it was time to act.  The time to act is now, and myself and my business partner Ed Anderson are doing just that.  Please join us in our quest to make a huge difference in many lives.

8CN's Ed Anderson said, "Many of us have felt the negative effects of the economy’s downturn. Most of us are forced to make some cutbacks here and there and I am certainly one of them. I am not ashamed to say that I have stressed over my finances this past year all the while reaching in my pocket to buy that $1.29 bottle of spring water.

I have attended several major boxing venues this past year and yes, shelled out $4 to $6 for the same water rather than taking a bottle from home. It’s a no-brainer for me.  I am cutting back on buying bottled water and using that money to help people in need.

While we may not eliminate our expense for it, I believe most everyone can certainly afford to give the gift of water to help at least one person for the next decade."

Project Hydr8 invites you to change lives forever!
By joining the cause, you can help bring clean water to some of the 1.1 billion people who don't have it today.

That's right, 1.1 billion people don't have clean water!  It's hard to imagine that with so much wealth in our world that one in six people are forced to walk miles for dirty, diseased water.

Why Water Matters?

Clean water lies at the heart of many problems facing the developing world.  Poverty, hunger, health, education…you name it…and a solution begins with access to clean water.

How You Can Help?

Your tax deductible contribution of $10 or more will be used, 100 percent, for actual project construction. You can make your donation at ProjectHydr8.org or 8countnews.com

A few months after we fund our first well, we'll post pictures, GPS coordinates and the community's reaction, right here for everyone to see.

Your support makes this work possible! Donate Now!
