This coming April 4th, Showtime Television will serve host to an intriguing unification bout between two talented champions when WBC Jr. Welterweight Champion Timothy Bradley meets WBO titlist Kendall Holt at the Belle Centre in Montreal, Canada.
While neither guy has been overly vocal in the past concerning pre-fight talk, things were a little heated between the two at a recent press conference.
“He is talking so much trash and he has never faced a guy like me,” an almost confused Bradley stated of Holt. “He lost twice and he’s been down eight times. In his last fight he went down twice before he knocked Torres out with a head butt.”
Bradley of course is referring to Holt’s fight in July of last year when he was dropped early by power punching Ricardo Torres in their highly anticipated rematch. Things looked bleak for Holt in that contest but he found a way to dig down and knock his Columbian foe unconscious with a brutal right hand towards the end of the round.
Replays would later show that a head butt from Holt occurred moments before the knockout, calling into question the legitimacy of the win in the eyes of some, including Bradley. When further opening up about Holt’s worthiness as a fight, the Palm Springs, California native was unrelenting.
“He has a suspect chin and I will take it to him,” a confident Bradley proclaimed. “Holt is lucky Torres did not make weight (for their scheduled rubber match last December), because I think he would have gotten knocked out.”
When the ball came to Holt’s court, he turned the conversation towards Bradley’s lack of professional experience.
“Bradley is a nice fighter but he has no experience, not enough to beat me.” Holt claimed. “He better hope and pray that he will win this fight.”
When touching on his rematch against Torres, Holt offered up a different view, focusing on the fact that even though he was down twice, he still found a way to pull out the win against the lethal hitting Torres.
“He said I have been down, but you can’t measure a fighter by his undefeated record,” Holt stated sharply. “Champions are the ones that find a way to get off the canvas, fight, and win.”
Upon hearing Holt’s retort, the usually mild mannered Bradley again went on the attack, calling into question Holt’s ticker.
“There is no way you are taking my belt, but I will take yours. You have no heart, I am here to take your heart out and take your belt along the way.”
Upon the announcement of this fight, fans have been eyeing this unification match closely. With the evident talent of both men having already been on display in previous contest, a good fight was expected. Now, with a little bit pre-fight anger and verbal venom spewing from both guys, this just may turn out to be a great one.
