Pacquiao vs Hatton, Premonition Part 2: The Pacific Storm Rises

February 25th, 2009

Hatton will always have that lucky punch. The one punch that “a boxer never sees coming”. We’ve seen it before and it could happen again. Instinctively, Hatton just has that gift to sneak a good one in. So many men before him have gone down with it, the greatest boxers of different eras had encountered nd went down with similar punches in the past.

For those of you who had been following this column, you all know that I have always believed in the Pac or the Pacific Storm. It is rooted not in boxing science, graphs, statistics or premonition. It is instead rooted in the promise and hope that is inherent in each one of us. It is rooted in the belief that a young poor kid from Gensan, can somehow swim his way across the Pacific, teach his people to believe in themselves and show his love for his country. And then inspire grown up men in a foreign land to believe in the little guy next door.

The amazing part about this is that the journey continues. As if this is not enough, on May 2, 2009,the kid from Gensan will swim further across the Atlantic to teach the same lesson to an entire new population. The only chance I believe that Hatton has against the Pac is that unseen shot. But I do hold dear my belief that this story has no other ending but that of the kid from Gensan will have his arms up victorious in the end.

If Hatton has that lucky punch, the core that made Pacquiao the man that he is will not go down with it. Every nerve and fiber of his body is weaved with his destiny and a punch will not fail him. The man’s entire life prepared him for that moment if it ever comes. Some of you have asked for the ending of the first article (Down Goes Pacquiao),  here it is:

May 2, 2009 Las Vegas, NV (CONTINUED)

Pacquiao looks straight, and he tells himself, This is it! This is my time. This is my moment. This is my people’s destiny. The bell rings, the Pac jumps straight out of his stool. Pacquiao is back and hits Hatton. With an aggression that no one has ever seen before, with a speed that no one will ever see again and with a power that is unknown to many, he attacks the Hitman. THE PAC IS BACK.

Hatton fights back he hits Pacquiao with a combination. Pacquiao backs down from the punches and with his trademark, “Let’s Get It On” action, he raises both his arms up,  telling Hatton, Let’s go! They have an exchange and blood drips out of Hatton’s eyebrows. The Pac smells it and the pacific storm blows by the Hitman’s face.  Hatton goes down. The referee counts and he looks at Hatton. He is dazed, confused and both his eyes are closed from swelling. He doesn’t have a chance and the referee stops the fight. A country roars in victory, it is heard across the Pacific and all the way to the Atlantic.
