8 Count News catches up with the latest on Taylor, Campbell, Green, Bailey, and McCline

February 28th, 2009

Chris Robinson

While the Glen Johnson-Daniel Judah card certainly didn’t disappoint in terms of action, there was still much going on around ringside throughout the night. Many notable faces were in the building and 8 Count News was there to gather the opinions of Jermain Taylor, Nate Campbell, Allan Green, Randall Bailey, and Jameel McCline

Jermain Taylor Ready to Shut Froch’s Mouth

8 Count News spoke with Jermain Taylor about his upcoming April 25th scheduled showdown with WBC Super Middleweight Champion Carl Froch. While usually respectful throughout his career towards other fighters,
Taylor had some choice words for his British foe.

“I don’t know too much about Carl Froch to be honest with you,”
Taylor said. “I really don’t know a lot of people who do either. All I know is that he has been talking a lot about me and I am ready to shut his mouth. I can’t wait to get back in the ring. I’m not going to do anything pretty, I am just going to go in there and fight this guy.”

Taylor has already begun training camp for the contest and is putting his work in at Tiger Boxing in Miami , Florida . Taylor talked about how important it was for him to get a big win in his last fight against Jeff Lacy.

“That was a big fight for me.”
Taylor admitted. “It just felt good to get in there and get busy again. I felt that was a great fight for me and I controlled the contest throughout. I’m ready to keep it going this year.”

Campbell Relishing the Chance to Encounter Judah Face to Face

Nate Campbell was in town for the fights to cheer on his good friend Glen Johnson. A rumored matchup for Campbell as he gets ready to jump the 140 pound class has be en that division’s former champion, Zab Judah, who was also rumored to be in town to support his brother Daniel in his fight vs. Johnson.

Judah and Campbell have recently had some disparaging comments towards one another, and things have seemed to get personal already even before a contract has been presented to either.
Campbell elaborated on the situation with 8 Count News.

“I’m hoping that I run into Zab
Judah ,” Campbell said. “He’s been talking a lot of shit to me and I just want to give him the chance to be a man and say it to my face. Someone told me that I have to watch my back if Zab Judah is down here, but he needs to watch his front if I’m around.”

Despite the rumor, unfortunately Zab didn’t appear to make the trip down, thus removing the possibility of any face to face encounters between the two.

Allan Green Ready for either Taylor or Deleon Jr.

A somewhat frustrated Allan Green was in attendance, talking to his good friend Campbell and opened up about his on again, off again clash with the aforementioned
Taylor . It was rumored for a while that the March 28th Showtime date was going to be headlined by Green and Taylor locking horns, only to have rumors surface of Taylor instead facing WBC Super Middleweight Champion Carl Froch.

“I think they’ve been bullshitting me a bit,” Green said as he spoke directly with 8 Count News. “I can tell you this; Froch still hasn ’t signed the contract. They also moved the date to April 25th. I just think
Taylor is trying to avoid the inevitable. I am ready and willing to fight Taylor , but if I can’t get that fight right away it looks like I am going to be facing Carlos De Leon Jr. on the undercard instead.”

Randall Bailey speaks on Gato Figueroa Clash

Randall Bailey spoke briefly with 8 Count News about his upcoming April 3rd clash with Francisco ‘Gato’ Figueroa. While not overly excited, Bailey still seems to very much be looking forward to the showdown.

“Right now I’m in camp but we haven’t really picked things up yet,” The former two-time Jr. Welterweight champ said. This next coming week we are really going to be stepping up the intensity in camp.”

When asked what he need to do in order to win the fight with Gato, Bailey was straight and to the point.

“I’m just going to focus on cutting off the ring and setting him up with my shots. I don’t think he can handle my power. I’m prepared to go the distance but I really think I am going to knock him out.”

Jameel McCline ready for showdown with Chris Arreola April 11th

Heavyweight contender Jameel McCline spoke to 8 Count News about his upcoming showd own with Heavyweight Chris Arreola on the April 11th Winky Wright-Paul Williams undercard.

“Let me tell you,” McCline said boldly. “I’m going to beat Chris Arreola. I’m a veteran in this game and he won’t be able to hang with me. I’m going to beat Chris Arreola.”
