Boston Boxing Results

March 15th, 2009

An enthusiastic crowd of mostly Irish descent gathered Saturday night at the Dorchester National Guard Armory in Boston, MA for an 8 bout fight card of up and comers and local favorites.

In the main event, Dublin, Ireland junior lightweight Patrick Hyland (16-0, 8 KO’s) won a hard fought unanimous decision over Nicaragua’s Carlos Guevara (12-9-2, 9 KO’s). Guevara was aggressive throughout the fight and often pushed the action. However, Hyland’s boxing skills proved to be too much as he was awarded the decision by scores of 98-92 (twice) and 99-91. 8countnews.com scored the fight in favor of Hyland 99-92.

In a 4 round welterweight special attraction, 2008 United States Olympic alternate Danny O’Connor (5-0, 2 KO’s) fought in his home state for the first time as a professional, knocking down Philadelphia’s Charles Wade (4-9, 1 KO) twice en route to a first round TKO.

Wade weighed in for the fight 20 pounds over the agreed upon weight limit of 141 pounds. He came down to 147 pounds to make the fight a welterweight bout and was stopped less than minute into the first round, after his corner threw in the towel following the second knockdown.

Former Irish national amateur champion Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan (7-0, 5 KO’s), sporting his hair shaved into the shapes of shamrocks, defeated Weymouth, Massachusetts  Jimmy Leblanc (12-16-4, 4 KO’s) by disqualification in a junior middleweight fight. Leblanc was deducted points in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds for clinching until the official has finally seen enough and DQ’d him for excessive holding in the 4th round.

Geneva, New York’s Nick Brinson (2-0) stayed unbeaten with a 3rd round TKO of Detroit’s Anthony Cannon (4-12, 1 KO). A brutal barrage of punches sent Cannon to the canvas in the 3rd round and the fight was stopped shortly thereafter. Official time of the stoppage was 1:14 of the 3rd frame.

Atlantic City’s Raphael Jastrzedski (1-6-1, 1 KO) picked up the first win of his career with a 2nd round TKO of Quincy’s Dan Conway (0-1). Conway knocked Jastrzedski down just seconds into the fight, but Jastrzedski returned the favor in the 2nd by scoring a knockdown and the knockout when Conway’s corner threw in the towel to protect their fighter from any further punishment.

IN a battle of two pro debuting local heavyweights, Lawrence’s Alexis Santos (1-0, 1 KO) used superior hand speed and power to stop Attleboro’s Steve Jaegar (0-1). Time of the stoppage was 0:12 of the third round.

Eldersburg, Maryland’s Mark Tucker  (8-0, 7 KO’s) stayed undefeated with a first round knockout of Philadelphia’s Juergen Hartenstein (12-14-1, 3 KO’s) in a light heavyweight bout. Official time of the KO was 2:45 of the opening round.

In the show opener, local welterweights  from neighboring cities, Justin Paulo of Taunton and Antonio Chaves of Brockton, fought 4 hard and entertaining rounds. In the end, Paulo was favored by the official ringside scorers 40-36 (twice) and 39-37. 8countnews.com scored the fight in favor of Paulo 39-37.
