In a world title fight between two Montreal based boxers, Jean Pascal (23-1, 15 KO’s) successfully moved up a weight division to dethrone Adrian Diacanu (26-1, 15 KO’s) and win a light heavyweight belt.
Pascal came out looking sharper from the start having a very successful first four rounds. In the fifth, he scored a knockdown with a left hook and appeared to had Diacanu hurt and on the verge of being stopped. However, Diancanu recovered and stunned Pascal, who was forced to clinch to survive the round.
The remainder of the fight was action packed with solid two way action from both fighters. In the end, Pascal won via unanimous decision. Official scores were 115-112, 116-112, and 116-111 all for Pascal.
In the co-feature, Contender Season 4 winner Troy Ross (22-1, 15 KO’s) extended his winning streak to ten fights with a lopsided unanimous decision over journeyman Michael Simms (20-11-1, 13 KO’s).
Ross was far busier and clearly outworked Simms for the entire fight. In the final round, the referee gave Simms a standing eight count while he was leaning up against the ropes and hurt.
Official scores were 99-90 (twice) and 98-91 for Ross.
