A source close to the negotiations has informed 8countnews.com that middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik will put his title on the line against former welterweight and current interim junior middleweight titleholder Paul Williams October 3rd in Atlantic City. The fight will be broadcast on HBO.
Pavlik will be making the third defense of the middleweight championship. During his reign as champion, he’s also fought two catchweight fights above the middleweight limit against Jermain Taylor and Bernard Hopkins.
Williams has been regarded as one of the most feared fighters in boxing since winning a welterweight title from Antonio Margarito in 2007. He’s competed from 147 – 160 pounds and claims he could fight successfully as high as 168.
