August 23rd, 2009
Defeating the veteran Ishe Smith was not an easy task for Daniel Jacobs. However Jacobs managed to pass the toughest test of his pro career in Houston last night. Jacobs was clearly the busier fighter. Throwing and landing more punches than Smith. Both fighters exchanged several body shots throughout the 10 round bout. Smith came out with his usual defensive counter punching style but showed more aggression as the fight went on. It wasn't enough. Jacobs continued to attack loading up on punches every round. Smith rocked Jacobs with several combinations and vicious right hands to the head. In the 9th round the referee deducted a point from Smith for a late hit after the bell. Jacobs won a unanimous decision win over Smith, and is the new NABO Middleweight Champion. Smith's inactivity in several rounds played a major part in his lost. The judges scored the fight 96-93, 96-93, 100-89. Smith drops to a record of 21-4 Jacobs remains undefeated at 18-0.
