Mayweather vs Marquez fight result: Just as everybody predicted

As what everybody predicted, Floyd Mayweather gave Juan Manuel Marquez a thorough beating and his fifth loss that he will never forget. The bigger, younger, faster, taller, longer, 32-year-old Michigan born used lightning quick 1-2 combinations and a cagey, near-perfect defense to embarrass and confuse Marquez in a 12-round non-title bout Saturday night at MGM Grand, Las Vegas Nevada. Floyd Mayweather Jr, who came back from a 2 year false retirement, dominated the welterweight class for years, made the 37-year-old Marquez — the WBA, WBO and Ring lineal Lightweight champion — look very small, slow, clueless and powerless in fighting a natural welterweight, two weight divisions over his natural fighting weight division.

In round 1; in the beginning seconds, both fighters waited for each other to make the first move as the two boxers are natural counter-punchers. Then Marquez tried to hussle Mayweather with series of combinations but to no avail as Mayweathers' defenses deflected the punches.

Round 2; the opening second are pretty much the same as the first one, waiting, feinting and when Marquez initiated the attack, its either Juan Manuel is hitting air or his punches were blocked by Mayweather. Marquez managed to "touch" Floyd Jr. in the middle of the round with a straight right hand that had no affect on Mayweather as he leaned back to take away the sting on Marquez' punches, with a taunting smile that says "You can keep trying but you can't catch me". Mayweather delivered a leaping left hook to Marquez' face that dropped him. He was clearly dazed when he got knocked down, but you have to admire the man for getting up and he kept fighting. The round ended with Marquez surviving to fight on.

From rounds 3 onwards, it was a total beatdown of Juan Manuel Marquez from Floyd Mayweather Jr. I have never seen Juan Manuel Marquez, an accurate counter-puncher missed so many punches! Floyd Jr.'s faster foot work is just too much for the older Marquez. Mayweather's faster hand-speed enabled him to connect at Juan Manuel Marquez at will. Marquez' face was always at the receiving of Floyd Jr.'s jabs and over-hand right. And everytime Mayweather throws those lounging left hook, it just couldn't miss Mayweather's head. I give credit to Juan Manuel Marquez for being a true warrior in the ring. He was outsmarted, out hussled, out punched, out muscled, out sped, out-everything, with bloodied eyes, mouth and nose,  but still, he kept on fighting.

And at the end of the fight, just as everybody thought the outcome would be unanimous decision victory for Floyd Mayweather Jr.

I thought the most interesting part of this event was over, until Floyd Mayweather Jr. was interviewed. Kellerman commended Mayweather for his win and said "There's another fighter here with the same size as you..." Sugar Shane Mosley showed up in the ring and Mawyeather Jr. said "I know Mosley is a great fighter but I'm not the one who choose my opponents but my Manager Mr. Hayman..." Sugar Shane Mosley replied "I've been waiting for you man! C'mon! Let's get it on!" Then a heated verbal exchanged followed suit. The Mayweather camp came in the ring as well as Bernard Hopkins and the other to cool Mayweather Jr. and Mosley down.

Seems like there are more up and coming interesting things going to happen in boxing in the near future!

In the undercard, Australian blood and guts warrior Michael Katsidis 26 (21 KO), 2-0 won a split decision against former Olympic challenger Vicente Escubedo 21 (13 KO), 2-0 to win the vacant WBO Interim World Championship. In an action-packed, Katisids was badly cut over and under his left eye while there was also a bruise inflicted on his right jaw by Escobedo who occasionally peppered the Australian challenger with a series of jabs throughout. But the Australian of Greek descent proved to be a genuine ring warrior, before eventually winning on the sheer volume of punches thrown and excessive body punches. Katsidis was banging Escubedo all night from round one to the finish, yet in an outlandish scorecard, Mike Fitzgerald had Escubedo the winner 116-112! Is he even watching this fight? Duane Ford scored it for the new champion 115-113. The third judge Robert Hoyle had Katisidis the winner by a wide margin 118-110.

WBA featherweight champion Chris John of Indonesia successfully defended his title by dominating Houston's Rocky Juarez over twelve rounds. Chris John was effective in boxing and counter-punching Juarez from round 1 onwards. By mid-round, Chris John was cut near his left eye by a repeated overhand right. John effectively kept Juarez at bay by using good footwork and utilizing his longer reach. By the later rounds, John seems to be running out of gas as his punches lacked the sting to keep Rocky Juarez' off of him, which brings Chris John's stamina in question. Rocky even rocked Chris John in the last 20 seconds of the final round by a sharp and compact left hook by Juarez, buckling John's knees. Amazingly, Chris John didn't go down and held on Rocky Juarez to keep erect for the remaining 10 seconds in the fight. But it was too late for the Houston pride as Chris "The Dragon" John already piled mountain of points using his superior boxing skills as
clearly dominated the contest with his excellent ring generalship and counterpunching abilities earlier in the fight. The official scorecards were 114-113, 119-109 and 117-111, all for Chris John who improve his record to 43 (KO 22), 0-1 while Rocky Juarez falls to 28 (KO 20), 5-0.
