Who is the most avoided fighter in all of boxing?

September 22nd, 2009

One of the most avoided fighters in all of boxing is two time WBO Welterweight Champion Paul "The Punisher" Williams. This impressive Southpaw has 37 wins and only one loss coming from Carlos Quintana.

Why haven't we seen Floyd Mayweather Jr. face Paul Williams? His name should be thrown in the hat along with Shane Mosley. Its obvious Paul Williams is feared by many. Mayweather Jr. selects fighters he can demolish. Juan Manuel Marquez come on, that wasn't a real fight. I almost fell asleep watching the two counter punchers. Absolutely a total mismatch and boring fight.

You cant call yourself the best pound for pound boxer in the world until you have defeated some of the best fighters today. Including Shane Mosley, Manny Pacquiao and Paul Williams. If Mayweather was to get in the ring with those 3 fighters it would be a brawl.

Paul Williams doesn't get as much notoriety as Pacquiao and Mosley but is a highly dangerous fighter. The talented Williams would have a reach and height advantage over Mayweather Jr. He is capable of throwing a high volume of punches with knockout power. I'm not saying Williams could beat Mayweather, but he can give him a true test.

Williams is preparing to face Kelly Pavlik December 5 in Atlantic City. Pavlik is a huge puncher and has destroyed many of his opponents with ease. Williams is no stranger to taking on big named fighters. He defeated Sharmba Mitchell, Antonio Margarito, and his last victory came against Winky Wright.

This contender possess a threat to any fighter between 147-168. He has jumped to different weight classes and proved himself time and time again. When will Paul Williams get the opportunity to face Mayweather? Most of all when is Jr. going to step up and give us real fight to watch?
