Adamek Relinquish IBF Title

October 19th, 2009

Tomasz Adamek surprisingly relinquished his IBF Cruiserweight title in a probable plan to actively campaign in the heavyweight division. Adamek is scheduled to meet Andrew Golota on October 24 for a minor IBF heavyweight title.

In his letter to Marian Muhammad, the president of the International Boxing Federation, he stated, “I am not leaving the IBF family. I will be fighting October 24 against Andrew Golota for the IBF International Heavyweight Title in Lodz, Poland. Further, when possible I hope to return to reclaim my IBF Title.”

Adamek will still keep his Ring Cruiserweight title until he officially declares that he is leaving the 200-lb. weight class and permanently fights in boxing’s premier division.
