Brian Minto Interview: Arreola vs. Minto

November 5th, 2009

A heavyweight fight between recent title challenger Chris Arreola (27-1, 24 KO’s) and fan favorite Brian Minto (34-2, 21 KO’s) has been set for December 5th at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The bout will be televised on HBO as part of a World Championship Boxing doubleheader along with the Paul Williams – Sergio Martinez middleweight fight. Brian Minto discusses all of this in the 8countnews.com podcast found below.

Minto is riding a seven fight winning streak heading into the December clash with Arreola. Most recently he defeated Ivanhoe, North Carolina’s Donnell Holmes by a 4 round technical decision in August (Watch: www.NESportsTV.com). His biggest fights have come in Germany where he scored a TKO over former title challenger Axel Schulz in 2006 and lost a close decision to contender Luan Krasniqui in 2007.

His biggest fights stateside came in a pair of meetings with brawler Vinnie Maddalone. In 2004, he scored a 10th round KO while trailing on the scorecards in a slugfest that still gets played on ESPN Classic from time to time. He also defeated Maddalone in a rematch the following year by 7th round KO on the Antonio Tarver – Roy Jones undercard.

Arreola will be returning to the ring for the first time since his only professional defeat in September. He was stopped after 10 rounds by Vitali Klitschko in a title shot.

Arreola’s biggest wins came against former contender Jameel McCline and prospects Chazz Witherspoon and Travis Walker.
