A
full report of tonight’s light heavyweight rematch between Chad Dawson
and Glen Johnson is on its way following the conclusion of the bout and
post fight press conference. Included will be a report on the Alfredo
Angulo – Harry Joe Yorgey junior middleweight co-feature. In the
meantime, here’s what happened on the untelevised undercard.
Mexico’s
Orlando Lora (26-0-1, 18 KO’s) and Nicaragua’s Octavio Narvaez (7-8-1,
4 KO’s) went the distance in an 8 round welterweight affair with all
three judges awarding a unanimous decision to Lora. Official scores
were 77-75 (twice) and 78-75 for Lora. 8countnews.com scored the fight
77-77 even. Narvaez appeared to be much better than his record
indicated and at times landed the far more effective punches. However,
Lora was busier in the later rounds and managed to stun Narvaez on at
least one occasion.
In
a battle between two Miami based fighters, Michael Oliveria (9-0, 7
KO’s) defeated Francisco Osorio (12-7, 10 KO’s) in a middleweight bout
after Osorio didn’t come off his stool for the 7th round.
There was good two way action from both fighters prior to the stoppage
with both combatants landing flush power punches on one another much to
the crowds delight.
In
a quick paced 8 round affair, California based super bantamweight
prospect Chris Avalos (13-0, 10 KO’s) won a hard fought 8 round
decision over Rhode Island’s Robert Daluz (12-22-3, 9 KO’s). Official
scores were 79-73 (twice) and 80-71 in favor of Avalos. 8countnews.com
also scored the fight for Avalos 79-73.
Philadelphia
middleweight Tyrone Brunson (21-0-1, 20 KO’s) remained unbeaten with a
third round KO of fellow Philly resident Jose Medina (15-16, 11 KO’s)
after landing a left hand to the body that sent Medina down for the
count. Official time of the KO was 1:31 of the 3rd round.
Heavyweight
prospect Emad Ali (3-0, 3 KO’s) scored a first round TKO of Lexington,
Tennessee’s Kelsey Arnold (1-4-2) in the opening fight of the evening.
Midway through the round consecutive hooking right hands knocked Arnold
down. Arnold would beat the count but would turn his back to avoid
punishment while eating consecutive left hooks later in the round. This
caused referee Joey Lupino to step in and call a halt to the contest.
Official time of the stoppage was 2:39.
