Prize Fight Promotors Shawn Porter

They call him “Showtime” because he comes to fight from the opening bell, but do not be fooled and think Shawn Porter is just another knockout artist trying to make a name for himself in the professional ranks. Making his professional debut on October 3, 2008, Porter has won his first ten fights eight by knockout. This Saturday in Tunica, Ms, Porter looks to add number 11 to his record against Jerome Ellis.

Coming out of a very extensive six week camp with pound for pound king Manny Pacquaio, Porter feels that his preparation with Pacquaio has more than got him ready for Saturday night.

I served as the chief sparring partner for Pacquaio,” states Porter. “I sparred many rounds with him and I learned a lot. I am proud that Freddie Roach saw something in my to give me that opportunity and now after seeing the performance that Manny put on against Cotto, I feel that it is my turn to go out and do the same on Saturday.”

After seeing that performance, Porter was proud to be a of something so historic.

“I think it not only says a lot about him, but also about my talents as well to be able to even be considered as his chief sparring partner. I am just ready to go out there on Saturday because now it is my turn to show off my hard work as well.”

It says a lot for a young up and comer to get a shot at even sparring with some one like Pacquaio, but with Porter it is not surprising considering not only his athletic ability, but also his amateur background where he was an alternate on the 2008 US Olympic Team.

Porter’s amateur background is stacked with accomplishments. He finished his career with an outstanding record of 276-14 and a long list of medals and awards.

Signing with Prize Fight Promotions, Porter has gotten off to a terrific start to his professional career and will continue to stay busy under the Prize Fight banner that has become known for developing young talent into future champions.

This Saturday, Porter is scheduled to face Jerome Ellis who comes in with a 12-9-2 record with 10 knockouts. Despite the losses on his record many consider him to be the toughest test thus far in Porter’s career having gone the distance with many talented fighters including former world title challenger Miki Rodriguez.

“I know very little about Ellis. I know he is a tough guy that has only been stopped once and that he has fought a lot of good opponents. We talked to some that have seen him fight but we did not have any film or anything on him.”

That is the case with a lot of opponents for up and coming boxers. Very little is usually known about their opponents but this does not bother Porter.

“I will come out the same way I always do. I am a fast starter and I can make adjustment as the fight goes on. I am looking forward to the opportunity and to headline my first main event. I will put on a show like always and also this fight will be broadcast on PrizeFightTv.com for 4.99.”

One more tidbit

Shawn Porter graduated from Stow High School where he broke the school rushing record held by Pittsburgh great Larry Czonka. This is just an interesting fact that I found at Porter’s website shawnporterboxing.com
