8CN Exclusive Interview with Allan Green
March 20th, 2010
Top super middleweight contender Allan Green sat down with 8CN Friday night in Key West, FL. After the recent cancellation of his fight with Andre Ward in the Showtime Super Six tournament, Green reacts to the fallout and gives his view on other bouts in the tournament.
8CN: Allan, how are you doing?
AG: I am doing great. I am just down here in Key West relaxing and here at the weigh ins with my friend Damian Frias, who has a big fight tomorrow night for the Florida State Welterweight title.
8CN: I know you are disappointed with the recent cancellation of your fight with Andre Ward in the Super Six tournament. What was your first reaction when you found out the news?
AG: You know, I was expecting something like this to happen. The boxing community is very small, and I had been hearing a lot of different things going on with Ward and the possibility of him pulling out. But to my knowledge, the fight has been rescheduled. I am not sure of the exact date, but I believe it is sometime in June.
8CN: I know this is a common problem that you have Allan, but you have been ducked by the divisions elite for a long time. Why do you think other super middleweights aren’t interested in fighting Allan Green?
AG: Why wouldn’t they be afraid to fight me? I am a big, fast and hit hard. That in itself scares guys away. I am a gritty fighter. But for some reason I have never had a big fight at 168. I have been ranked in the top ten for the past four years yet they still duck me and still haven’t had a big fight at super middleweight.
8CN: At first when they announced the Super Six tournament, your name wasn’t included. Why do you think they originally left you out?
AG: I guess it has to do with politics. I’ve been asked this question a lot, but I really don’t have an answer to that. Do I feel like I should have been in the tournament from the beginning? Of course, a lot of people thought I should have been in from the beginning, but now I am in and I just have to make the most of this opportunity.
8CN: Even though your fight is postponed, there is two other tournament fights coming up. What is your thoughts on [Arthur] Abraham vs. [Andre] Dirrell?
AG: It really depends on which fighters show up. If the Dirrell shows up that fought Curtis Stevens, he could possibly outbox Abraham. But if he is not on top his game, and is nervous, Abraham will bring the fight on the inside and it maybe a quick night.
8CN: The other big tournament fight coming up is Carl Froch vs. Mikkel Kessler. What is your thoughts on that fight?
AG: Right now I think Froch has more momentum that Mikkel Kessler. Kessler is coming off a devastating loss to Andre Ward. I don’t know how his confidence is right now, but I am leaning toward Froch. It is really a toss up, but if I had to pick I would take Froch.
8CN: Any final comments for your fans out there champ.
AG: All I have to say to my fans is just be patient and the WBA title will be strapped around my waist very soon.
