A good Friday for Delvin Rodriguez

April 2nd, 2010

In his home state, Danbury, CT’s Delvin Rodriguez (25-4-2, 14 KO’s) earned a hard fought unanimous decision over Astoria’ NY’s “Mighty” Mike Arnaoutis (22-5-2, 10 KO’s) in a 12 round welterweight fight at the Mohegan Sun Casino Friday night. Official scores were 119-108, 118-109 and 117-110 in favor of Rodriguez.

Rodriguez, a former welterweight world title challenger, proved to be too big for Arnaoutis, a former junior welterweight world title challenger, who was making his debut at 147 pounds.

In the early goings, both fighters seemed tentative with Rodriguez being more aggressive. The action picked up in the later rounds. Arnaoutis was cut over the left eye in the 11th round and finished the fight with blood dripping down his face. He was also deducted a point during the bout for low blows.

In the evenings co-feature, junior middleweight prospect and 2008 US Olympian Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (10-0, 7 KO’s) was forced to go the distance against Colorado tough guy Geoffrey Spruiell (8-9, 2 KO’s) while winning a unanimous 6 round decision. Official scores were 60-54 three times for Andrade.

Andrade was able to nail Spruiell with many clean punches throughout the fight and used his athleticism to avoid any return fire, but was unable to put down the veteran 15 years his senior.

Andrade is next tentatively scheduled to fight May 21st in Laredo, TX.

Off TV Results:

Middleweight prospect “Mean” Joe Greene (22-0, 14 KO’s) of Queens, NY defeated Baton Rouge, LA journeyman Chris Gray (12-12, 1 KO) via unanimous decision over 8 rounds. Official scores were 79-73, 78-74 and 77-75 for Greene.

In the evening’s opener, Yonkers, NY based super middleweight Shqiprim Muriqi (3-0, 2 KO’s) kept his undefeated record intact and many fans in attendance happy as he scored a 3rd round TKO over the too tough for his own good Fasika Bezabeh (0-4 in) in a rematch.. The bout was mercifully waved off at 2:08 of the 3rd round after Muriqui delivered a pounding to Bezabeh for the entire fight duration. Previously, Muriqui defeated Bezabeh via 1st round TKO last October.
