Danny Williams destroyed in 2. Katsidis/Mitchell undercard results

May 16th, 2010

Danny Nolan

Interim WBO lightweight champion Michael Katsidis (27-2 22KO) once again sent the British public home disappointed. Three years after retiring Graham Earl in 5 rounds, Katsidis was up to his old tricks again. Stopping previously undefeated Kevin Mitchell (31-1 23KO) 1:57 into the 3rd round. It was another big win for the big punching man from down under and a bitterly disappointing one for the young Brit fast halting his hopes of becoming a world champion. As for whats next for “The Great” Katsidis, surely the winner of the upcoming Marquez Vs. Diaz rematch is next inline

Undercard results

Derek “Del-boy” Chisora (13-0) destroyed Mike Tyson’s former conqueror Danny Williams (41-9) with a big left hand in the second round causing the referee to call a halt to the fight. Williams looked a mere shell of his once intimidating self, he was sluggish from the off and Chisora took full advantage and did what he promise by winning the British Heavyweight title in dominating fashion. Danny was also down from a huge uppercut earlier in the second round. Williams was rumoured to have trained himself in the run up to the fight, and also claimed win lose or draw this would be “the Brixton Bombers” last time inside the ring. We wish Danny all the best in his future endeavours and thanks for the memories.

Billy Joe Saunders (6-0) looked impressive scoring a 6 round point’s win over Andy Butlin (6-4-1). Saunders coming off a lay off from a broken left hand opened fast landing combos to the head and body of Butlin. Throughout the fight Saunders continued to land combos to the body and hear of Butlin but lacked the power to get him out of there, Saunders was giving a stern warning in the third for intentional use of the head, in the 6th round Butlin had a cut opened over the left eye, but did well to hang on until the end. Saunders winning 60-55 on the scorecard.

British Olympic gold medallist James “Chunky” Degale (7-0) captured the WBA International super middleweight title with an impressive 5th round KO over brave Sam Horton (15-2). Degale came out swinging from the first bell showing little respect for Horton, walking him down landing big shots at will. Horton was dropped in the second but managed to hang on until the 5th round. Degale landed a huge left hand dropping Horton to the canvas. His corner throwing in the towel seconds later.

Frankie Gavin former amateur world champion (7-0) annihilated Gavin Tait (8-9) in the first round of a scheduled 6. Coming out throwing shots with bad intentions from the opening bell. Gavin battered his opponent landing at will until referee Marcus Mcdonnell jumped in to save him from further punishment. Gavin despite domination Tait received a cut above the right eye for his troubles.

So a top prospect soundly beaten, the 3 Ex-Olympians all win in style. And a cult British boxing icon heads out of the ring and into retirement. All in all eventful night of boxing for the fans.
