Litzau wants a Juarez Rematch! Q&A
June 12th, 2010
8CountNews spoke with the current NABF super featherweight champion Jason Litzau. He was supposed to have had a rematch against Rocky Juarez, something he desperately wants, but the powers that be may not make that happen for him. It looks like HBO wants to put Rocky Juarez back on the air against Jorge Linares, and not Litzau. This obviously does not make him happy, and it certainly does not make his promoter Roy Jones Jr happy.
Litzau deserves an HBO date. The kid is an exciting fighter, and at the end of the day he did get the win over Juarez in his last fight. Jason also gives us his thoughts on the possible Manny Pacquiao Vs. Floyd Mayweather fight. Litzau breaks down the fight, and predicts a Pacquiao victory. The topic of steroids came up and Litzau pulled no punches. Litzau says it's possible that Pacquiao is taking something in order to come up in weight the way that he has, but emphasizes that it very well may be something that is not banned by boxing. Check out what else "The American Boy" had to say in this exclusive 8CN interview/Podcast.
8CN - What's going on Jason?
JL - Man I am just wanting to get back into the ring but nothing is coming up for me. Life is treating me good though.
8CN - Your last fight against Rocky Juarez was stopped because of a cut. When I looked at the replay on YouTube it appeared as if the cut was as a result of a punch. Can you elaborate on that?
JL - They protested it and it wasn't determined that it was from a punch. I mean I won the fight, I don't know what to say. No matter what, I won the fight and that's all that matters.
8CN - I talked to your promoter Roy Jones Jr yesterday, and he told me that it looks like HBO has skipped your rematch with Juarez and gave him a date against Jorge Linares instead. Give me your thoughts on that.
JL - That pisses me off because I will fight him anywhere, anyplace. I will even go to his hometown in Houston and fight him.
8CN - What do you think the sport needs to do in order to fix something like this?
JL - Golden Boy runs the show right now, so what are you going to do, you know? I'll fight Jorge Linares tomorrow, but that's not the option that I got. I got no options right now, and it really disgusts me.
8CN - When can you get back in there?
JL - You know boxing, hopefully something will come up. I am pissed off because I have a family to feed. I will fight anybody, anywhere, I don't care.
8CN - You're an exciting fighter, I am confused as to why you don't get the HBO dates.
JL - I wonder the same thing. If they skip me and give this HBO date to Rocky Juarez, I will be so mad. It just disgusts me man.
8CN - HBO people read and listen to 8CN, so make your case.
JL - I am willing to fight anybody, anywhere. I thought I was going to Houston for a rematch with Rocky Juarez. Now he gets Jorge Linares? I will fight him July 31st! Please, this shouldn't happen where a man who wins gets put on the shelf, and the guy that loses gets the HBO date, it just doesn't make sense to me.
8CN - What would you differently if you could fight Rocky Juarez again?
JL - Man, to be honest? I felt so good that night. After that night, I can beat anybody right now. I trained so hard for that fight, I felt great that night.
8CN - It looked like as the rounds went on your confidence built.
JL - Exactly, I am ready for anybody. I am getting older but stronger. I am a late bloomer, been that way since I was a kid. I get better as I get older, that's just how I feel.
8CN - You also fought Robert Guerrero for a world title. Talk about that performance....
JL - I am not the same guy that I was back then. I was not making weight right back then. I know more about the game now, and how to make the weight better. By the 8th round in that fight I could not take a punch. My weight is 130lbs and in that fight I had to make 126lbs, I just can't do that. I am more disciplined now, I don't blow up like I used to. I walk around at about 145lbs now.
8CN - You're an exciting fighter to watch. How important is it to you to give your fans their money's worth?
JL - It's really important, without the fans there is no boxing. That's how I look at it anyway.
8CN - What was it that got you into boxing?
JL - Boxing as been in my family for generations. St Paul, MN used to be real big in boxing back in the day, really big.
8CN - Off of your career, who do you think will win if Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather fight?
JL - I believe Pacquiao will win the fight. He has the perfect style to beat a guy like Mayweather. He just throws way too many punches, all that defense isn't going to work. When a guy throws 500 punches at you, that defense just isn't going to work. Manny Pacquiao is just unbelievable.
8CN - Do you think Pacquiao is on steroids like the Mayweathers believe?
JL - He's got to be on something. You don't go from 108lbs to 146lbs and be the pound for pound king of the world. There could be something you can take legal, but I'm not sure what can make you go from 108lbs to 146lbs and be that strong and be that fast. I just don't know.
8CN - Well when I graduated High School I was like 178lbs, and now I am 240lbs so you get heavier as you get older naturally no?
JL - There you go, there you go, it's not like Manny is 22 years old now. Kids out of High School that want to play football that want to put on weight, can't do it, it's hard for them. It could be that Manny is taking stuff that is perfectly legal. This fight must happen, where else can they go? They have to make it happen.
8CN - Jason, you deserve a rematch and hopefully you will get it. Give me some closing thoughts for your fans.
JL - Well no matter what was said, at the end of the day I am so happy to be in America. We have troops over there losing their lives for me, and that's more important. I want to thank my fans, and all of the troops out there.
