Misreporting on Mayweather Pacquiao increases
June 17th, 2010
There is no doubt that the anticipation for the Floyd Mayweather Jr Vs. Manny Pacquiao fight continues to build. Fans are getting both frustrated and excited about the buildup. Unfortunately there are a few boxing publications that are putting in headlines that this fight is a done deal. This fight is not a done deal. The fight is not a done deal, and neither fighter has received any contract to sign. The fight is still in heavy negotiations. Both Bob Arum and Richard Schaefer (Golden Boy CEO) are still going back and forth trying to make this fight happen.
A very reputable boxing website www.fanhouse.com reported today that Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer questioned Oscar De La Hoya concerning quotes that he had read that all but confirmed the fight as being done. De La Hoya denied saying such a thing, and told Schaefer that he had been "misquoted" and that it was not true.
As reported by Fanhouse.com, Schaefer had the following to say, "I spoke to Oscar yesterday (Tuesday) and I wanted to know where that came from and he said that he was misquoted. I saw those quotes as well, and I had no idea what Oscar was talking about. And I called him up and asked him about them and he that he was misquoted."

Now there are a couple boxing websites using unnamed sources that claim that this fight is a done deal. 8CountNews has sources that we use from both Pacquiao's camp and Mayweather's camp, none of which are saying that this fight is close to a done deal. 8CN can report that the negotiations are ongoing, and that there has been some progress that makes Top Rank's Bob Arum, "optimistic" but nothing further to report at this time.
