Adamek talks Grant, Mayweather, Pacquiao, and Klitschko's

June 30th, 2010

8CN just spoke with the former cruiserweight and light heavyweight world champion Tomasz Adamek. The current heavyweight contender will be squaring off against former world title challenger Michael Grant. This fight is scheduled for August 21st, 2010 at the Prudential Center, in Newark, New Jersey. Adamek is coming off of a very impressive victory over Chris Arreola, and looks to march forward toward a world heavyweight title shot in the very near future. Adamek also shares his thoughts on the potential super fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather.

8CN – Thank you for joining 8CN.

TA – Thank you.

8CN – Talk about this big fight coming up against Michael Grant.

TA – I am happy to be fighting again at home. I look forward to an exciting fight.

8CN – You have a lot of fans in New Jersey. Talk about the very loyal fan following that you enjoy in the New Jersey area.

TA – It's like home for me. I look forward to fighting in front of my fans again. Everybody knows that when I fight it's exciting. The fans are waiting for this fight and I look forward to it.

8CN – Michael Grant is a very big man. How will you deal with fighting a guy of his size?

TA – Heavyweights are mostly big. Fighting a guy like Michael Grant will get me ready for the Klitschko's maybe next year. Michael Grant has the size like Klitschko, it's good experience, a very good test. Michael Grant is a good boxer, he's big, but I am quick. I think it will be a good fight.

8CN – Do you respect Michael Grant's power?

TA – I respect everybody that I fight. Every opponent should be respected because this is boxing. I am now back home and starting training. I think next week we will start sparring.

8CN – Talk about the sparring.

TA – They will be big guys like Klistchko's. I will spar one guy, then the next guy the following week.

8CN – You defeated Chris Arreola rather easily. How much did that victory boost your confidence going up against guys much bigger than you?

TA – I love tough fights. Everybody likes to see the kind of fight that I had with Arreola. I am confident and I just look forward to this fight against Michael Grant.

8CN – If and when you get your title shot at heavyweight, does it matter to you which one you get?

TA – You know it's a matter of HBO or Showtime, and who they propose I fight. HBO gave the proposal in my last fight with Estrada, and same thing with Arreola. It's the TV business, so I will take whoever, it's my job. I am not afraid of nobody.

8CN – Who do you match up against best?

TA – I think David Haye. I think because of my size, but if I get a chance at Klitschko of course I will take that fight too. I want to make all of my fights exciting.

8CN – If you get a shot at Klitshcko, how do you get inside on him?

TA – My coach says to me that I have to be quick. If I am quick it's harder for someone to touch me. Speed is power, so I must be quick. I can't be slow, not at my size. I have to be quick, that is best for my style. Speed is power.

8CN – Did you see the Holyfield Vs. Valuev fight?

TA – Yes, I see all of the fights.

8CN – Do you take a page out of Holyfield's book and apply that against a guy like Grant?

TA – Yes something like that, because I am smaller and he is bigger. I have to be quick and move and use my combinations.

8CN – How long before you think you will get a world title shot?

TA – Well I want to stay focused on Michael Grant. I don't look past him, but if all goes right I think by next year I should get my chance. I think I will get an elimination fight sometime in the near future. A couple of days after the Michael Grant fight, I can talk more about the next fight.

8CN – What are your thoughts on Mayweather Vs. Pacquiao?

TA – Pacquiao is very quick, but Mayweather is a very smart fighter, and quick too. Mayweather is taller and bigger, so I think he should be favored. One punch can change everything though. Just like when Mayweather fought Mosley, in the second round he got hurt. Maybe one or two more punches by Mosley, and who knows what could have happened?

8CN – Do you think that the fight will happen?

TA – Yes! I think so because every fan wants to see this fight. They want to see good fights, for all of boxing around the world. Every fight should be like Pacquiao and Mayweather. This is good for the sport. Just like in my fight Vs Grant, we already sold many many tickets. I am happy for that too.

8CN – Tomasz, thank you very much. This is the first time we did this without Ziggy translating.

TA – Yes! Every time me and you talk my English gets better and better. This is good!

8CN – Absolutely. Thanks again for your time champ.

TA – Thank you Brad.
