On Thursday night at the Remington Park Casino in Oklahoma City, the small venue leapt to life as George Tahdooahnippah fans roared in support of their undefeated hero. After Tahdooahnippah's opponent, Dezi Ford had made his entrance to the ring, a Native American dancer fully adorned in traditional attire performed a war dance on behalf of the “Comanche Boy”.

Tahdooahnippah is proud of his Native American heritage and it's refreshing to witness the young fighter's desire to represent his people in such a positive manner. As Tahdooahnippah has expressed his appreciation for Manny Pacquiao for the way that he represents his country, his desire is to be an ambassador for his own people. On July 8th, he gave his fans reason to be proud yet again.

In his first fight with world-class trainer Jeff Mayweather as his mentor, Tahdooahnippah looked fit and ready. He showed off his skills against grizzled veteran Dezzi Ford (24-28-2, 9 KOs). Particularly notable were the innumerable digging body shots that Tahdooahnippah continually landed during the short bout. From ringside, Tahdooahnippah's punches echoed with the unmistakable pop that resounds when the leather of a solid puncher meets the flesh of his unfortunate opponent.

By the middle of the first round Tahdooahnippah's 41 year old opponent was tired. Toward the end of the round he was in serious trouble as Tahdooahnippah's punches had already taken their toll. With only seconds left in Rnd. 1, Tahdooahnippah landed a right to the temple that sent Ford to the canvas. Ford rose to his feet right at the end of the 10-count. The referee waved his arms signaling another victory for “Comanche Boy” and setting his record at 24-0-1 with 19 KOs. The official time was 2:59 of Rnd. 1.

8CN and Wichita Boxing Examiner / Front Page Boxing executive Jonathan Thyng spoke with Tahdooahnippah and Mayweather after the fight.

8CN: Great job, George. How would you rate your performance tonight?

GT: Well you know, I was taking my time, just opening up, digging to the body. I was going to take him some rounds but I think I was cracking him with some body shots. I could hear him making some noise. But hey, you know, he went down in the first round. I was going to take him down after that, so it was bound to happen. If he could, I wish he could have stood up but everybody can't stand up when they get knocked down.

8CN: You're looking sharp, looking tough, and you're in phenomenal shape. I know you're ready to start taking on some tougher opposition.

GT: Oh, most definitely! I had something lined up on ShowTime. It fell through. I can't dwell on anything in the past. I just got to keep going. I know what I can do, my trainers know what I can do, my people know what I can do. Now it's time to show the world what I can do.

8CN: Alright, man. Thank you.

GT: Thanks a lot, sir.

I then got in on part of Jonathan Thyng's interview with Jeff Mayweather.

JT: What's it been like working with George?

JM: George is a pleasure to work with. George is one of those guys who really wants to learn and he takes instructions well. When I ask something, he'll try it and that's a trainer's dream.

JT: What makes him unique? Is there any type of unique skills or mentality that he has that will take him to the next level?

JM: Well I think that the one thing that will take him to the next level is... one thing that he found out when he got with me is that he can actually punch. I mean, he wasn't throwing his punches properly at all. I got him to start turning his right hand over and start turning his hip over and shifting his body weight with it. Now he's feeling confident. He's feeling real comfortable with me. Also, I put him in with some world-class fighters so he could test himself. Once he gets in there with someone who can actually fight and who has been to the top, if you can stay in there with them and they're not dominating you, then you know that you can make it in this business.

JT: One more question. How has sparring been in Las Vegas? I know you have some real tough fighters coming in.

JM: Well, I mean sparring was good for him. He sparred with Zab Judah. He sparred with Ishe Smith. And he can hold his own with everybody I put him in with, so that's why I know that he can go a little farther than just here. I think that he's going to get much better.

8CN: Hi Jeff. How would you rate George's performance tonight?

JM: Well, I think it was a great performance. I wouldn't necessarily say it was an 'A', but I wouldn't say that it was worse than that because he did what he was supposed to do with an opponent like this in front of him. I mean, he was supposed to go out there and dominate this guy and not let him stick around. When your competition is like this, this is what you have to do in order to move on to bigger and better things because these type of guys aren't supposed to go 3 or 4 rounds with you.

8CN: Is he ready to start fighting some undefeated fighters, or at least some tougher opposition?

JM: I want to work with him for maybe 2 to 3 fights, then I think we'll be ready. We'll be ready to fight any of the top guys.

8CN: Is he going back to Las Vegas to train with you after he takes a little time off?

JM: I think that's the plan, so we'll see.
