8CN Interview with Nate Campbell
July 21st, 2010
8CN caught up with former lightweight world champion Nate Campbell in Tampa, Fl this week. Never shy on words, see what the Galaxy Warrior had to say.
8CN: Nate, how are you doing?
NC: I am doing great. I got cleared today to go back to boxing. That is why I am so happy.
8CN: When do you want to get back in the ring?
NC: Man, right now! I am just waiting for one of these guys to fall off the card and I will take that spot right now. You think Golden Boy would go for that?
8CN: Haha, I think you would go for that, but we all know the fights would be over with before negotiations would even get anywhere.
8CN: Speaking of Golden Boy, they have been suspended in New York after being accused of moving money around in between your last fight with Ortiz.
NC: Man, I don’t know anything about that stuff. I signed the contract, and what I signed it for is what I got. All this other dealings, and how much HBO paid for the fight is stuff I don’t know. I got the money I was supposed to get for the fight, not more or less.
8CN: We’ll the reason we are here in Tampa for this Ballroom Brawl card is because several of your fighters that you currently manage is on the card.
NC: Yea, that is right. We got Cordaro Simpkins from Virginia on the card in his fifth fight. I also have Raymond Charles fighting in the main event and Antton Slaughter making his pro debut out of Ohio. I am here to show them support and help move them along in there boxing careers.
8CN: Antton Slaughter is your newest signee. What can you tell us about him?

NC: Slaughter is a real strong kid. He is another southpaw, which seems to be a trend in guys I sign. He had a good amateur career, won the Golden Gloves in Ohio a few times, and fought in the Olympic Trials. He is young and ready to go.
8CN: Other than the three guys you have on this card, you also have the Willis Brothers, Marcus and Quinton. When can we expect to see them back in the ring?
NC: I am looking for something for them soon. They were originally going to be on this card, but it just didn’t work out. Quinton took a close loss in his last fight against another undefeated guy, but he will bounce back
8CN: You are coming off a loss in your last fight with Victor Ortiz on HBO. You could hear on the telecast telling John David Jackson that you were having a problem with your hip. Can you explain your injury and how you are doing now?
NC: It was a nerve problem. A woman described it to me as being worse than her labor pains. Now I’ve never had labor pains but it was hurting bad and I couldn’t put my foot down. I thought once it started to feel a little better I could fight my way through it, but it’s alright. You know me. I will be back.
8CN: Now that you said this isn’t the end for Nate Campbell, who would you like to fight next?
NC: Whoever they put in front of me. I would like Casamayor/Guerrero winner. Casamayor and I go way back and I always wanted to fight him again.
8CN: Any final comments for your fans out there Nate?
NC: Thank you for all the love and dedication you have shown me throughout the years. I am a happy man. I just sent my daughter away to college last month and now I got to fight to pay for that school. I will be back soon. God bless.
