Early Results from Vegas: Linares and Guerrero victorious. Pirog knocks out Jacobs in 5!

July 31st, 2010

Jacobs Vs. Pirog

Dimitry Pirog sent a message early in the fight, he is the real deal.   Jacobs early in the fight realized that the young fighter from Russia meant business. Jacobs had a nice 1st round, but Pirog would answer in round 2 by dominating the round, even stunning Jacobs against the ropes.  Both fighters had their moments, but in round 5 Pirog landed a perfect right hand that would end the night early for Jacobs. KO Pirog.  With the win Pirog grabs the vacant WBO middleweight title.

Official Time - 57 sec round 5

Guerrero Vs Casamayor

Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero survived a late 10th round knockdown and got out of the fight with a unanimous decision. It was a rather boring fight but nevertheless Guerrero gets the W and moves on.  Casamayor looked like a shot fighter for the most part, but had a few moments in the fight.  Guerrero chose to fight cautiously which did Casamayor a big favor enabling him to survive the entire 10 rounds.  Guerrero would go on and get a clear cut unanimous decision.  UD Guerrero

Official scores 98/89 98/89 97/90

Juarez Vs. Linares

US silver medalist, and multiple world title challenger Rocky Juarez was soundly defeated by Jorge Linares tonight in Las Vegas.  Juarez, who's had several opportunities to break through on HBO fought pretty much the same way that he's fought the last few times that we have seen him.  Juarez fought moving forward but could not land big leather, and did not throw near enough punches.  Juarez was knocked down in the 5th round by a left uppercut, a punch that did not hurt him but still made it a 10/8 round.  Linares worked on the inside and the outside throwing nice straight jabs, and beautiful uppercuts. Just like many of Juarez' fights, he came on a little bit late in the fight, but it was too little too late.  Linares cruised to a 10 round unanimous decision.  Official scores - 99/90 97/92 and 99/90   UD Linares
