James Toney means business! Exclusive 8CN Q&A

August 13th, 2010

James “Lights Out” Toney sat down with 8CountNews and shared his thoughts on his huge upcoming MMA fight against Randy Couture scheduled for August 28th, at the Boston Garden. Toney has a little message for not only Couture, but for UFC commentator Joe Rogan, and UFC head Dana White. Toney is not happy with the lack of respect he has been given and looks to have the last laugh on the 28th in Boston. Check out what else the 5 division world champ had to say in this exclusive 8CN interview/Podcast.

8CN – James thanks for joining 8CountNews

JT – Hey Brad thanks for having me on your show I appreciate it.

8CN – How's camp going so far James?

JT – I can't complain. Training camp is going very well. I got the best training I can get. These guys are busting my ass. I am learning something new everyday.

8CN – James a lot of the UFC crowd are saying that as soon as Couture shoots on you and gets you on the ground it's all over. I think you may have some surprises if he does get you on the ground. Is that fair to say?

JT – You know what Brad, yea that's probably the smartest thing you said all day. I want the UFC people to keep thinking that. All I have to say is if Couture tries to shoot on me look up into the sky because you might see him flying across the hemisphere somewhere.

8CN – Joe Rogan looked like he was slighting you a little bit when he interviewed Couture the other day. Do you feel you are getting the respect you deserve?

JT – Joe Rogan is a bitch! They have no choice but to respect me. They are scared, and until Rogan puts some gloves on they need to shut the fuck up. They have no business talking about fighting. If you never fought, you have no business talking.

8CN – Do you get tired of these guys talking all this smack?

JT – I get tired of it, but when they see me in person it's all, ' Hey James how are you doing?', and smiling and all that bullshit. I am used to it, and I love it because it motivates me even more.

8CN – Dana White talked a little smack about you too.

JT – Dana can talk all day. When you talk on a computer all you are is a cyber gangster. When they see me then they want to shake my hand, and Dana White should know better than that. When I see him I might just knocked the shit out of his ass.

8CN – Do you believe the UFC is underestimating you?

JT – It's the same, all bullshit. When they see me in person they are all nice to me. Yea they are underestimating me. I had nobody test me in boxing, or MMA....they know what's good for them.

8CN – This will be the first major MMA fight in Massachusetts. How do you feel about being involved in such a special event for the first time in that state?

JT – As my trainer would say, it's F'ing awesome! I can't wait to get to Boston, I love it there. I have fought there a few times. I am glad the fans up there get to see a legend fight up there. It's going to be sold out, and I promise I won't disappoint.

8CN – There have been some real legends in that venue up there in the Garden (the original Garden) Guys like Larry Byrd, and...... Toney cuts in

JT – Marvin Hagler

8CN – Absolutely, Marvin Hagler as well.

JT – Even though it's not the original garden it's going to be special. I feel the spirits of Archie Moore, Robinson, Marciano, it's these guys that I think of when I fight up there in the Garden.

8CN – Let's get back to your opponent. What part of Couture's game do you respect the most?

JT – I don't watch video of my opponents. They don't fight me the same way they fight other guys. They always fight me scared, and that's what Couture will do.

8CN – Would you prefer to knockout Couture being you're a boxer first?

JT – Listen to me closely, on August 28th Randy Couture's light bill is due. If he does not pay his electric bill on that date, his lights will go out.

8CN – The entire boxing world is in your corner for this fight. Do you feel any pressure?

JT – There would be if I never fought before. I been doing this for 25 years, so on August 28th watch what James does best, and that's knocking peoples head's off.

8CN – Thanks James, give the fans some closing thoughts.

JT – To all my boxing fans, I am proud to be representing our sport, the number 1 sport in the world. To all my MMA fans, I got lots of love for you too. People say that I don't but I do. I love MMA, it's a great sport on the rise. Tune in on August 28th! Brad thank you very much, I appreciate your time.
