Germany’s Marco Huck (30-1, 23 KO’s) retained his cruiserweight title with a dominant 5th round TKO over Providence, Rhode Island’s Matt Godfrey (20-2, 10 KO’s) Saturday afternoon.
Huck scored three knockdowns en route to the stoppage win, one in the 2nd round and two in the final round.
“He fought a great fight and came to do what he had to do”, Godfrey told international broadcasters of the bout following the fight.
This marks three consecutive TKO title defenses for Huck over American challengers. His lone defeat came to fellow titleholder Steve Cunningham in 2007. Both fighters are currently signed to German promotional powerhouse Saulerland Event so a rematch is possible.
For Godfrey, this marks the second time he has fought outside the United States and his second career loss.
