Luis "La Estrella” Franco steps up

Cuban sensation Luis "La Estrella” Franco will make a big jump up in competition when he takes on Mexican Leonilo Miranda on Showtime September 16 from Primm, Nevada in an 8 round bout. Franco, who boxed for Cuba in the 2004 Olympic Games, is currently 6-0 as a pro with five wins coming by knockout. Franco’s most notable win came in March against former world title challenger Walter Estrada on FSN’s Fight Night Live Series. In his last fight, Franco stopped rugged veteran Yogli Herrera in the 5th round. That fight was the co feature fight on Telemundo’s telecast August 13th.
Leonilo Miranda is known for his world-class power. With a record of 32-2, thirty of his wins have come by knockout. No stranger to big fights, Miranda has previously fought on ESPN and Showtime before. In April, Miranda knocked out prospect Andre Wilson in the sixth round on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights. Miranda’s biggest career win came in July 2008 when he knocked out former WBO Bantamweight Champion Cruz Carbajal in the 8th round in a fight shown on TV Azteca.
The Franco- Miranda bout will be one of three fights on Showtime September 16th. The main event features rising welterweight Freddy Hernandez (28-1) taking on Mike Anchondo (30-2). The other televised fight with feature the return of Anthony Dirrell (18-0) as he takes on Skyler Thompson(11-7).
