Adamek talks about victory over Grant

August 23rd, 2010

Heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek fresh off of his impressive thrilling victory over Michael Grant, sat down with 8CountNews and shared his thoughts.  Adamek won a unanimous decision last Saturday in front of a packed Prudential Center.  The fight was one of the better heavyweight matches in quite awhile, and the fans who paid the $29.99 actually got their money's worth.  Adamek talks about his future, including a possible title shot against one of the Klitschko brothers.  Check out what else Tomasz had to say in this exclusive 8CountNews interview.

8CN - Tomasz, thanks for joining 8CountNews.

TA - Thank you, hello.

8CN - It was a nice victory over big Michel Grant.  Talk about your performance.

TA - For me it was a good test against a big tall guy. The fight was very difficult because he is a strong man with a lot of experience.  He's got a good teacher in Eddie Mustafa Muhammad.  My tactics were good, I kept him on the outside and I went inside and threw my combinations.  He held me too much though.  He held me and grabbed my head some.  The fight was good though, it was exciting.

8CN - The fans enjoyed this fight.  8CN had you winning the first 6 rounds, and Grant winning a few after that.  Did he ever hurt you in the fight?

TA - Yes, he hurt me one time with a right hand.  He's a strong guy, I think maybe twice he got me where I felt it.

8CN - You moved nicely, and I did see him holding you some.  You guys got tangled up once, and both of you fell.  What happened there?

TA - I tried to throw a combination but he was holding my head, and I couldn't make the combination work because he was holding.  Sometimes he held and the referee let him hold a little bit too much. I couldn't get that combination off, and we ended up tangling up.

8CN - Did you ever get tired?

TA - No, I wasn't tired.  I was more tired fighting Arreola because I threw more combinations and punches.  I couldn't throw as many punches against Grant because he did a lot of holding.

8CN - Did you pick Michael Grant as an opponent in order to gain experience fighting a bigger guy in preparation for the Klitschkos?

TA - Yes this is why we took a taller opponent like Michael Grant.  We are very close to a title fight, and Grant was a good test.  We are close to this title shot, maybe next year.  I needed an opponent like Michael Grant.

8CN - Grant was very respectful after the fight.

TA - Yes, and I respect him too.  He gave me a good fight, he's a big strong fighter.  He can punch, but I was smarter than he was in the ring.

8CN - When do you want to fight again?

TA - Maybe in November or December. I should get a title fight next year, within the first six months.  I don't know exactly when but the title fight should be next year.  I can't wait around though because I need to stay busy.

8CN - Don't forget that David Haye is out there too.

TA - I will fight him too, but Haye only talks.

8CN - You had a lot of fans show up on Saturday, much more fans than Grant had of course most were Polish.

TA - Yes, I was very happy with the fans. They always come, and each fight a few more thousand fans show up.  I think next year we can fill the arena.  I want to give my fans a good exciting fight every time.

8CN - I bought that pay per view, and I thought it was worth every penny.

TA - Yes, I am happy.

8CN - Do you have some closing thoughts?

TA - Hello to my fans, and thanks to the fans who came out to see the fight, and to those who bought the pay per view.
