Couture submits Toney - Edgar dominates Penn
August 29th, 2010
Legendary boxing champ James "Lights Out" Toney stepped up to the plate (and way out of his element), and took on the UFC's legendary Randy Couture tonight at UFC 118 in Boston, Mass. Couture did pretty much exactly what the entire fight word expected he woud do, he took Toney to the floor and submitted him in the 1st round. Unlike a lot of other boxing sites, there will be no bashing Toney here. The man stepped up to the plate and took on one of the best mixed martial artists that has ever lived.
Couture shot a single leg grab and took Toney to the floor. Toney had no answer for the gound and pound attack that Couture applied. Toney was able to slide to the cage, and that's where Couture secured a choke hold that would end the fight.
This was NOT MMA Vs. Boxing. This was an MMA fighter in Randy Couture taking on a boxer in an all MMA rules fight. Congrats to Randy Couture for doing what he was supposed to do, and congrats to James Toney for having the rocks to step up and give it a try.
The Main Event was a rematch between former lightweight world champ BJ Penn and current champ Frank "The Answer" Edgar. Penn was simply outclassed by a much faster Frankie Edgar. All 5 rounds went to Edgar. He simply was not going to be denied in this fight. Penn tried to make a few adjustments, but even when was able to get Edgar down, the champ was able to reverse his position and gain the advantage. All three judges had it scored 50/45.
