Undefeated Brandon “Flawless” Gonzales TKOs Byron Tyson in 3

August 31st, 2010

On Saturday night in Churchill County Regional Park, Fallon, Nevada, Brandon “Flawless” Gonzales lived up to his nickname. The 26-year-old middleweight is taking boxing by storm. With 13 pro fights under his belt, the undefeated young pugilist has won most of his fights by KO, and the remainder by UD.

Gonzales came in fully ready to throw down with Byron “Buddy” Tyson (9-1-2, 4 KOs) and proved his dominance inside of 3 rounds. This was Gonzales’s first bout with renowned trainer Jeff Mayweather in his corner. Gonzales improved his record to 13-0 with 10 KOs.

I contacted Jeff Mayweather on Tuesday to discuss the young prospect’s performance.

“I guess his performance can be best described as his ring name, Flawless, and he took apart Buddy Tyson round after round,” Mayweather said. “Brandon came out and established the jab right away. Tyson was not at all a bad fighter, but they were both on different levels.”

Mayweather went on to give a basic play-by-play of the short bout.

“In the first round, Tyson was dominated by the jab, and was even dropped by a strong jab. Round two would be a little more of the same. There was a nasty cut under the right eye of Tyson from that persistent jab, then phase two kicked in, as Gonzales would go on a vicious body attack. Every time Tyson was hit with a body shot, he would actually scream. Round three was a repeat of round two, and Tyson's corner had seen enough. They came up on the apron, stopping the assault that was being administered.”

Jeff Mayweather has openly proclaimed that he feels he has a future world champion on his hands in the person of Gonzales. In a pre-fight interview, 8CN asked Gonzales how he felt about Mayweather having such a great deal of confidence in him.

“I not only appreciate it, but it motivates me to live up to the expectation,” Gonzales said. “It's more of an expectation than anything, but something like that coming from Jeff Mayweather is definitely a great compliment.”

8CN looks forward to big things to come from this young prospect.
