Williams steps back into the ringNovember 28th, 2009
We are a week away from seeing Paul "The Punisher" Williams back in the ring after a 9 month lay off. Finally someone will step in the ring against Williams. Sergio Martinez deserves major credit for taking this fight. Kelly Pavlik was slated to face Williams, but suffered from a staph infection which forced him to pull out of the fight. This has set up Williams vs. Martinez on December 5th in Atlantic City.
This will be a huge test for Martinez, coming in as the underdog against the polished Williams. Martinez is not as known as Williams to many boxing fans, but he can definitely fight. The southpaw Martinez is a very active fighter. His speed is about as fast as Williams. Martinez also has excellent defense. The difficult part for Martinez will be,defending against a man who throws over a hundred punches per round. Williams should look to take out Martinez quickly. Martinez could become a problem for Williams, the longer he stays around because he is a very smart fighter. Enough cant be said about Williams speed, power and length because of those long arms. Williams is a beast in the ring, and there is a reason why he is feared by fighters from 147 and up. Training camp in Virginia is looking good for Paul Williams who is sparring with Carlos Quintana who's style is similar to Martinez. Quintana is the only man who has managed to defeat Williams. Look for a very active fight between the two southpaws Williams and Martinez next week..
