Nate CampbellSeptember 21st, 2009
8CountNews.com caught up with former unified lightweight world champion Nate Campbell Saturday night in Tampa. Even though Campbell wasn’t fighting, he was busy working the corner for his three fighters, Raymond Charles, Kenneth Moody and Cordaro Simpkins. Nate talked about the night’s card, and what is in store for his future.
8CN: First off, Congratulations to Ray and Cordaro on their wins tonight.
NC: Thanks, we would have liked to have gotten the sweep, but Moody had a tough loss.
8CN: What is in store next for your fighters?
NC: They will be back here November 6th in Tampa. I will have Ray back and the Willis brothers (Marcus and Quinton) on that card too.
8CN: What does it mean for boxing in the Tampa area that your manager Terry Trekas [One Punch Productions] is now working with former promotional rival Pete Fernandez?
NC: It is a good thing. Both sides have fighters that can fight on the same cards now. They don’t have to fight over dates, locations, and sponsors with the way things are going.
8CN: Also, would like to say congratulations to you and the California boxing commission for making the right call in turning the Bradley decision into a No Contest. Any plans on upcoming fights?
NC: I really don’t know. I am just trying to fight the best fighters out there but I’m not getting any help from Don King. I may be sitting until May, when my contract with him is up.
8CN: Do you believe there is any chance for a rematch with [Tim] Bradley?
NC: Bradley don’t want to fight me. It is what it is. I’m the kind of guy that generates a lot of talk, but when it comes down to sign for the fight they want all the money.
8CN: Any last comments?
NC: Thanks to all the fans who stand by me and have been so kind to me. I love you guys.
