White Light Cemetery interview

August 17th, 2011

White Line Cemetery is making noise in the metal scene

White Light Cemetery is a southern rock/metal band from all over North America and landing in  Lafayette, Louisiana. These guys started this band in 2008, with one goal to create pure organic sound that happens when a band gets together and jams!! I personally seen these guys quite a few times and their sound is one of a kind!!!!

8CN: First off bro, thanks for you time!

Paul- No problem man…  Thank You!

8CN:Who is White Light Cemetery??

Paul-White Light Cemetery is a bunch of guys who for one reason or another all ended up in southern Louisiana, by birth or by chance, and came together out of a mutual passion for growing facial hair...  HAHA!  sorry bad inside joke...  in all seriousness, we just all love that old school heavy dark bluesy sound that came about in the late 60s thru the 70s.  Some how that stuff just makes sense down here, and anyone who knows anything about our music scene in southern Louisiana knows it.

8CN:What major music influenced the band?

Paul-I'd say Black Sabbath has a lot to do with it, and everyone they influenced too.  Especially the bands that broke out in the 90s like COC and Clutch.  A lot of the greats from back in the day too, like Skynyrd, ZZtop and Led Zeppelin.  We all grew up on that stuff and personally I'm constantly digging up bands and albums from the same era and being inspired over and over again.  Ultimately we really influence each other directly.  Ryan(guitarist) and Shea(Vocals/guitarist) have definitely caused every bit of the guitar player have become so far.

8CN:What separates this band from all the others in Louisiana?

Paul-  Louisiana has a diverse culture, with the french and spanish roots, and everybody knows the NOLA scene, bands like Down, EyeHateGod, Crowbar, Goatwhore.  These bands are drastically different from each other but they share the Louisiana sound….White Light Cemetery has a lot of Nola influence going on, but we pull from a lot of other areas as well and i feel we have managed to incorporate that sound with our other influences very well.  There is stuff from all over in it, but if you wanted to nitpick all this evil blues started with Robert Johnson et al. in the 30s anyways, so right back to the Mississippi delta.

8CN: Awesome answer!! It is always a hard thing to explain…Louisiana music  just has something about that you feel in the music! What are you guys have coming up as far as touring and local shows?

Paul-WLC will be hitting up the NOLA area a good bit in the coming months, and on November 19th, we'll be playing at Grant Street in Lafayette, La with Goatwhore! We are working on spreading out through Mississippi and Arkansas into Florida.  Should be going up to Tennessee by early next year, and we'd really like to play more in Texas, we had a blast last time.

8CN: Where do you see yourself a year from now?

Paul:On the road somewhere between Paris and Berlin...  or anywhere really, definitely on the road slingin Riffs.

8CN- I will be looking out for WLC!! What is your goal …getting signed a European tour?

Paul-All I want is to write and perform music i genuinely enjoy every day for the rest of my unnaturally long life.  If that means having label support, and touring Europe then great!  I see those kinda things as milestones to be shot for and hopefully one day accomplished.

8CN: The way the music industry is what are your  thoughts on cd sales and internet taking over? Good or bad??

Paul-I like buying CDs, chillen, checking out the whole deal.  I just like trying to get into the head space of the creators.  Albums are written as a whole, they should be taken in as a whole.  Seams a lot of people don't see things that way right now.  I can understand the convenience i guess, but for me, so long as i can still get my albums i don't really worry about it.

8CN: Where can future fans find out more info on tour dates and where to buy CDs and keep in touch with WLC?

Paul- We are working on an official website.   www.whitelightcemetery.com   is redirecting to our Facebook page. But our plan is to have a site where fans can hear about news, check out tour dates and buy merch in the next couple months!   which reminds me, in the mean time you can get your copy of the EP from us at shows or by contacting us on our Facebook page.  or Download it on amazonmp3, itunes or http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/whitelightcemetery

8CN:Any hellos thank yous or any news you want to let people know about?

Paul-A lot of people have helped us out, Dave Rabalais at Randy Diddly studios, and Tyson Pate at the Grind house on Planet radio 105.1 alongside others. Our booking guy/manager Patrick with PM Star Promotions,LLC…..  I would like to personally thank everybody who has supported us by coming to shows and spreading the word. Of course everyone who supports the local scene!!

8CN: Thanks for your time and I look forward to see ya guys on tour!!

Paul- Hell yeah!  see y'all in the world!
